Limits

Calculation

  1. The calculations are based ob scientific results of Watson,Widmark,Kwo,Pikaar,Seidl/Jensen/Alt et al.
  2. Be aware: The variance from the mean value for such calculations is very high and can easily reach 100%. It is not improbable that two individuals, one of receiving double the alcohol dose of the other, could have similar peak BACs
  3. The calculated values below about .75 hour (if fasted) and 1.5 hour (if fed, varying especially by fat content) are theoretical only. Below this period the BAC increases as absorbed by the body to finally reach the peak BAC
  4. For example the reduction of the peak BAC level by food was reported in one study between 9% and 21% [Virginia Tech Research University] was measured in another to 25% [Pikaar] and a third claimed -0.2 permille [Mallach] (fast versus fed)
  5. The AER (alcohol elimination rate over time) also is influenced significantly by a rich meal (e.g. 530 kCalorie). For example the AER can be increased in average of 25% [Kwo]. Typically the time required to eliminate alcohol from blood is shortened by 1 to 2 hours in fed state. The type of the meal (protein versus fat versus carbohydrate) has no significant influence
  6. A big burger stands for a meal with about 550kcal, a half burger for a meal of about 275kcal and the tiny burger for a fasted person. Typically after ~ 3 hours (200 min) [Ramchandani] or ~ 2 hours [Seidl] without eating you can be seen as fasted
  7. Heavy drinkers (drinking more than 1.6 Permille per dinner as opposed to social drinkers) can have a higher alcohol elminiation rate of up to 0.2 Permille/hour. iDrinkSmart does not offer this configuration and assumes a 'social drinker'
  8. The drink aclohol Vol% and the speed of drinking (both which result in the same amount of ethanol) have usually no relevant influence on the BAC [O'Neill]
  9. BAC measured over breath can probably be lowered by exercise and flushing the mouth but this has typically no influence on the blood-BAC
